Your $40 purchase of today has to be added to your volume for the previous month ($60 on Jun 1st and $60 on Jun 15th = $120) and for the previous six months ($720). As a result, you reach $120 + $40 = $160 for the previous month and $720 + $40 = $760 for the previous six months. According to the tables above, with $160 you are eligible for a 10% discount for the last month, and with $760 you are eligible for a 15% discount for the last six months. The highest of these discounts (15%) is applied to your current purchase, so that your payment will be $34 instead of $40. Furthermore, if you are paying by check, an additional 5% discount is applied and your payment will be reduced to $32.
